Stunning Design for Premier Performance

In Las Vegas, Nevada, PMI partnered with installer AVAI to design a state-of-the-art screening room from the ground up, including layout and orientation of the room, sound isolation, and array of the sound and video systems.

A top-of-the-line Steinway Lyngdorf digital sound system was installed which, of course, deserves a very quiet room to showcase its full dynamic performance. Meticulous noise control was imperative to keep the ventilation equipment quiet in this house which is exposed to as high as 110 degree heat in the summer.

We worked with interior designers from Colours, Inc. in Las Vegas to create stunning and luxurious interior architecture that would conceal speakers, subwoofers, and acoustical treatments without affecting any of their premier performance. Even the equipment room is luxurious!

Uniquely, the full bar in this room was carefully designed into the acoustical characteristics of the space - the cabinetry contains proper acoustical properties and is completely rattle-proof. The client loves the theatrical performance and the profound quiet of the room which has become his favorite private retreat in the home.

What happened this time?! EQ With a Healthy Side of Hum. So I was on this job site the other day, with the classic set of challenges. The client had bought a high-end 2-channel system from the integrator: Wilson Duette speakers, Linn preamp, Moon/SimAudio power amplifier. After it was all up and running, the client complained there was "not enough bass". So, the integrator sold him a couple of JL Audio subwoofers and asked me to come along and make the whole thing work - setting crossovers, time-aligning the speakers, balancing levels, equalizing the response, and voicing. We used a trusty Ashly ne4400 DSP audio processor; it’s a pro-grade digital audio processor with EQ, crossover, delay, level - the works. THE GRIMANI FILES: Bringing Life to a Comatose Home Theater

This client was referred to us by the integrator, who completed this installation about 10 years ago. The room was a dedicated three-row home theater in an upscale neighborhood of Detroit. All the gear was state-of-the-art for its time - from the studio-grade speakers, to the professional HD video projection system. But the surround decoder finally gave up the ghost after several years of faithful service. The client heard that Dolby Atmos® was the latest thing, so he sourced a new processor. He expected it to be an automatic upgrade, but wasn’t aware that he also needed to add speakers for the Top and Wide locations.
